‘Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical’ announces cast and voiceover artists

The satirical comedy retells news and world events through puppetry sketches. Al Murray, Matt Forde, Luke Kempner, and Jess Robinson lend their voices to the show.

King Charles III, Ian McKellen, and Ant and Dec in the same show? It could only happen in Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical. Previews begin at the Phoenix Theatre on 24 May, with an opening night on 14 June, and performances to 26 August.

Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical is based on the 1980s television series of the name. In the musical version, Tom Cruise must create a "Magnificent Seven" of celebrity misfits to save the United Kingdom.

Co-creators Al Murray and Matt Forde lend their voices to some of over 100 celebrities and political figures satirised during the show. The voice-over cast includes Oliver Chris, Kathryn Drysdale, Jason Forbes, Luke Kempner, Lorna Laidlaw, Jackie Lam, Shri Patel, Jess Robinson, Debra Stephenson, and Ronan Summers.

Antony Antunes, Rianna Ash, Katie Bradley, Emily Essery, Kaidan Dawkins, Bertie Harris, Pena Iiambo, Jackie Lam, Bright Ong, Will Palmer, Helen Parke, Rayo Patel, Tom Quinn, Richard Vorster and Faye Weerasinghe will star.

"From throwing away three entire scripts, to the constant re-writes and creating the new puppets and characters which reflect the crazy world of UK culture and politics, we have been delighted that our audiences so far have laughed as hard and as long as they have… We have been updating and reflecting on the most recent events possible… and can exclusively reveal what ‘really’ happened behind the scenes in the week leading up to the King’s Coronation,” said director and co-writer Sean Foley.

The show features production design by Alice Power, costume design by Lotte Collett, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Richard Brooker, and choreography by Lizzi Gee.
