'Mrs. Doubtfire' to close in London in April 2025
After opening in May 2023, the musical adaptation of the beloved Robin Williams film will play its final performance at the Shaftesbury Theatre next spring.
It's hard to find a good nanny these days. After just over a year and a half in the West End, Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical will close 26 April 2025 at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
In an announcement video, Mrs. Doubtfire is seen standing with a globe, and the cheerful Scottish au pair thanks her London audiences for the wonderful time she's had.
"I've had a lovely time in London, I really have," she says in her chirpy voice. "But I've decided I'm going to take myself on a world tour!"
The musical will embark on a tour post-closing, with dates and stops to be announced.
Mrs. Doubtfire opened in London in May 2023 following a 2021 Broadway run. The American production earned Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for Rob McClure for Best Actor in a Musical, as well as a Drama Desk win for Best Wig and Hair Design.
Following an out-of-work actor and divorced father who disguises himself as a Scottish nanny to spend time with his children, Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical comes from the 1987 novel Alias Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine. The novel was adapted into the succesful Robin Williams comedy film Mrs. Doubtfire in 1993, also starring Sally Field as his ex-wife.
Gabriel Vick currently stars as Daniel Hillard, alongside Laura Tebbutt as Miranda Hillard, Charlotte Fleming as Lydia Hillard, Cameron Blakely as Frank Hillard, Thommy Bailey Vine, Herbie Byers, and Parker Newman as Christopher Hillard, and Rachelle Bonfield-Bell, Ellemie Shivers, and Felicity Walton as Natalie Hillard.
