Sit down, you're rockin' the boat! Nicholas Hytner's Guys and Dolls have announced Owain Arthur will join the cast in July.

Arthur (One Man, Two Guvnors, The History Boys) will replace Daniel Mays in the role of Nathan Detroit in this immersive production of the world-renowned 1950 musical at the Bridge Theatre.

He begins performances on 17 July, running until 19 October when Mays will return to the role.

Nicholas Hytner said in a statement, “I’m delighted that Owain Arthur will be joining the company of Guys & Dolls. He was outstanding in One Man, Two Guvnors and he promises to be a tremendous Nathan Detroit.”

Set in New York City, Guys and Dolls centres around Nathan Detroit, a desperate gambler in urgent need of a new venue for his illicit dice games. When he crosses paths with the renowned Sky Masterson, they strike a bet: Sky must woo a woman to accompany him to Cuba. Yet, as they encounter Sarah Brown, their wager takes an unexpected turn, shifting from a mere gamble to a tale of love and chance.

Arthur joins the cast that includes Cedric Neal as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Andrew Richardson as Sky Masterson, Celinde Schoenmaker as Sarah Brown, Marisha Wallace as Miss Adelaide, Jordan Castle as Harry the Horse, Cornelius Clarke as Lieutenant Brannigan, Cameron Johnson as Big Jule, Anthony O’Donnell as Arvide Abernathy, Mark Oxtoby as Benny Southstreet, Ryan Pidgen as Rusty Charlie, and Katy Secombe as General Cartwright.

Completing the cast is Iroy Abesamis, Simon Anthony, Lydia Bannister, Kathryn Barnes, Callum Bell, Cindy Belliot, Petrelle Dias, Ike Fallon, Leslie Garcia Bowman, George Ioannides, Robbie McMillan, Perry O’Dea, James Revell, Charlotte Scott, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, Isabel Snaas, Sasha Wareham and Dale White in the ensemble.

Guys & Dolls is at the Bridge Theatre until February 2024.
