QUEEN MUSICAL EXTENDS TO 25TH JAN 03

The Queen musical We Will Rock You has announced a new booking period covering performances from 19th Aug 02 to 25th Jan 03 at the Dominion Theatre.

It is reported that since opening the musical has been seen by over 100,000 people and has grossed more than £4 million. ( It is also expected to transfer to Broadway next summer)

The show, which has songs by Queen and book by Ben Elton, opened to poor notices from the popular press last month: THE INDEPENDENT says, "Ben Elton, the brains behind the book, claims to be a rock fan but he has done Queen a disservice with such a trite and tacky storyline." THE DAILY MAIL says, "Shallow, stupid and totally vacuous new musical." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Far from being guaranteed to blow your mind, We Will Rock You is guaranteed to bore you rigid." BRIAN LOGAN for THE GUARDIAN says, "The songs are recreated meticulously. Diehard Queen fans may be satisfied...... You will find nothing bohemian, and precious little that's rhapsodic, here."

Directed by Christopher Renshaw and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the show features Nigel Planer, Tony Vincent , Hannah Jane Fox , Sharon D Clarke , Alexander Hanson , Kerry Ellis and Nigel Clauzel.

We Will Rock You does not chronicle the story of the band, Queen, rather it incorporates the songs of the rock group in a similar way that Abba songs are used in 'Mamma Mia!'. The time is the future. Globalisation is complete. Everywhere, the kids watch the same movies wear the same fashions and think the same thoughts. It's a safe happy, Ga Ga world. Unless your a rebel. Unless you want rock. On Planet Mall all musical instruments are banned. The company computers generate the tunes and everyone downloads them. But resistance is growing. Legend persists that somewhere on Planet Mall instruments still exist......
