Richard Coyle to play Atticus Finch in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’

Rafe Spall will leave the production in August.

All rise for a new Atticus Finch. Richard Coyle will take over the role of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird this summer. To Kill a Mockingbird is at the Gielgud Theatre. Book To Kill a Mockingbird tickets on London Theatre.

Rafe Spall will play a final performance on 13 August, with Coyle taking over the role from 15 August. His theatre credits include Ink, Don Carlos and The Lover & The Collection. He’s also starred in television series such as Coupling and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Niall Buggy will also join the To Kill a Mockingbird cast as Judge Taylor from 15 August, taking over the role from Jim Norton.

The To Kill a Mockingbird cast includes Harry Attwell, Amanda Boxer, Poppy Lee Friar, John Hastings, Simon Hepworth, Laura Howard, Lloyd Hutchinson, Gwyneth Keyworth, Tom Mannion, David Moorst, Pamela Nomvete, Patrick O’Kane, Jude Owusu, Harry Redding, David Sturzaker, Natasha Williams, Helen Belbin, Laurence Belcher, Paul Birchard, Ryan Ellsworth, Rebecca Hayes, Danny Hetherington, Matthew Jure, Anna Munden, Tiwai Muza, Oyin Orija, Itoya Osagiede, Candida Caldicot, Ciyo Brown and Jack Benjamin.

Set in 1930s Alabama, the To Kill a Mockingbird play follows lawyer Atticus Finch and his family as he defends the wrongfully accused Tom Robinson, all narrated by Atticus's daughter Scout. Aaron Sorkin adapts To Kill a Mockingbird for the stage, with direction by Bartlett Sher, set design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, and sound design by Scott Lehrer.
