Romola Garai cast in Ella Hickson’s The Writer at the Almeida Theatre
Initial casting has been announced for The Writer, Ella Hickson's new play set to get its world premiere at the Almeida Theatre in April.
Romola Garai will play the titular writer in the play, who is described as wanting to 'change the shape of the world' but in need of a 'new way of thinking' to make herself heard. Garai starred in the Almeida's production of Oil in 2016, and her other theatre credits include Queen Anne at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, The Village Bike at the Royal Court and Measure for Measure at the Young Vic.
The Writer will run at the Almeida Theatre from 14th April to 26th May, with an official opening night on 24th April.
It will be directed by Blance McIntyre (As You Like It and The Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare's Globe) with designs by Anna Fleischle, lighting by Richard Howell, sound by Emma Laxton and movement by Sasha Milavic Davies.
Other productions in the Almeida's recently announced season include Sophie Treadwell's Machinal, Ontroerend Goed's production of £¥€$ (LIES), and Clare Barron's play Dance Nation.
The Writer is at the Almeida Theatre from 14th April to 26th May.
