The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Don Quixote is to transfer to the West End later this year, with actors David Threlfall and Rufus Hound reprising their roles from original production.

James Fenton has adapted Miguel de Cervantes' 17th century novel, which follows the adventures of a Spanish nobleman named Alonso Quixano who decides to bring justice to the world after reading so many chivalric romances. He recruits a young farmer name Sancho Panza as his squire.

Directed by Angus Jackson, the music-filled piece has songs by James Fenton and Grant Olding.

Following its premiere in Stratford-upon-Avon in the spring of 2016, it will transfer to the Garrick Theatre from 27th October, and run until 2nd February. Don Quixote tickets will go on sale on Monday 25th June.

David Threlfall, who plays the title role, is best-known for playing the lead role of Frank Gallagher in the Channel 4 series Shameless, and has a stage career stretching back to his last RSC performance, which was Nicholas Nickleby in 1980.

Rufus Hound last appeared on the London stage in Wind in the Willows at the London Palladium, and has also appeared in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and One Man, Two Guvnors. He takes on the role of Sancho Panza.

Director Angus Jackson previously worked on Oppenheimer, the acclaimed plat that transferred to the West End following a premiere at Stratford-upon-Avon in 2015, and the Rome season at the Barbican last year.

The production will have designs by Robert Innes Hopkins, music composed by Grant Olding, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound by Fergus O'Hare, fight direction by Malcolm Ranson and movement by Lucy Cullingford.

Don Quixote is at the Garrick Theatre from 27th October.
