‘The Drifters Girl’ sets West End closing date
The jukebox musical will tour the UK next year.
The Drifters Girl musical tells the story of how the 1950s vocal backing group, The Drifters, became international superstars. The Drifters centres on how their manager Faye Treadwell helped the band’s career, while navigating public and private issues. The Drifters Girl opened at the Garrick Theatre in 2021.
Beverley Knight originated the role of Faye Treadwell in The Drifters Girl, earning an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Felicia Boswell took over the role of Faye in July 2022.
The Drifters Girl cast includes Adam J Bernard, Tarinn Callender, Matt Henry and Tosh Wanogho-Maud. In a five-star review of The Drifters Girl on London Theatre, our critic said: “What can happen with a cast of five and a few set and lighting pieces is truly remarkable.”
"When Adam, Tarinn, Matt and Tosh agreed to be in The Drifters Girl, we were overjoyed because we knew they were special... Now we are fortunate to have Felicia, who is giving a thrilling performance every night as Faye Treadwell. It is an extraordinary company. Replacing them all was always going to be difficult, so we have made the decision to close the show when everyone's contracts end on 15 October," said The Drifters Girl producers Michael Harrison and David Ian.
Jonathan Church directs The Drifters Girl, which features an original story based on an idea by Tina Treadwell and a book by Ed Curtis. Set design is by Anthony Ward, with choreography by Karen Bruce, costume design by Fay Fullerton, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Tom Marshall.
Following The Drifters Girl in the West End, the show will tour the UK in 2023 and premiere in North America.
The Drifters Girl is at the Garrick Theatre to 15 October.
