Following a run at Leicester's Curve Theatre in 2015 it has been announced that the new musical The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole will have its London debut at the Menier Chocolate Factory in Southwark this summer. The production will run from 14 July to 9 September 2017, with an official opening on 26 July.

Based on the popular young-adult novel series by Sue Townsend, the book was originally released in 1982 and has since spawned numerous follow ups and adaptations. It was first adapted into a BBC Radio 4 radio version and then into a stage production by Townsend in 1984 featuring music by Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley which ran at the Wyndham's Theatre and on UK tour.

This new musical is written by Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary and will be directed by Luke Sheppard. Since originally opening in Leicester the musical has undergone various stages of development in preperation for the London run.

Critics at the time praised the musical describing it as 'amiable' and 'low key' but suggested 'problems of perspective' (Independent), with The Guardian calling it a "quaint, unassuming little charmer"

The production will feature choreography by Rebecca Howell, set and costume design by Tom Rogers, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound by Gregory Clarke and orchestrations by Paul Herbert.

Casting for The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ is yet to be announced. It is produced by the Menier Chocolate Factory and Curve, in association with Anthony Clare and David Ian Productions.

The Menier Chocolate Factory is currently presenting Lettice and Loveage by Peter Shaffer at their south London venue and a revival of Terrence Rattigan's Love in Idleness at the West End's Apollo Theatre.

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole tickets are now on sale.
