Alexander Hanson

Alexander Hanson was born in Oslo, Norway in 1961 and has French, Norwegian and English roots. He attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he trained in acting.

Hanson is best known for his West End and Broadway performances, namely his appearance in An Ideal Husband in 2010, alongside his wife, actress Samantha Bond. He later starred in A Little Night Music which then transferred to Broadway, where Hanson revived the role of Frederik. Other notable works include his starring role in the West End revival of The Sound of Music, where he played Captain Georg Von Trapp. He was also the original Khashoggi in We Will Rock You. In 2000 Hanson he played Captain Macheath in the Royal National Theatre’s The Villain’s Opera.

In 2012 Hanson joined the cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar, playing the role of Pilate in the arena tour. More recently Hanson took on the title role in Stephen Ward the Musical at London’s Aldwych Theatre in 2013.

Outside the theatre Hanson has played many television roles in shows such as The Bill, Murder City, Lewis, Casualty and films such as Kidulthood (2006).

In 2016 Hanson returns to the West End in The Truth at the Wyndham’s Theatre. The show will run from June 2016 until 3 September 2016 and has received positive reviews.
