Born in Italy but raised in Colorado, United States, Amy Adams is a multi-award-winning film actress. Adams made her West End debut as Amanda Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie at the Duke of York’s Theatre

As a child, Adams attended ballet classes, growing up with dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. But at college age, Adams moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and decided to change career path to focus on musical theatre. In the late nineties, Adams moved to Los Angeles and made her feature film debut in Drop Dead Gorgeous, later starring in Catch Me If You Can alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Adams’ breakout role came in 2005, earning an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Ashley Johnsten in Junebug. From this, Adams went on to star in leading roles in a number of films, including Giselle in Enchanted, Sister James in Doubt and Charlene Fleming in The Fighter. For Doubt and Fighter, Adams was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards. To date, Adams has been nominated for six Oscars, with her performances in The Master, American Hustle and Vice also recognised.

Even though Adams’ career has mostly been in films, she’s also been on stage — achieving the dreams her 18-year-old self wanted. In 2012, she starred as the Baker’s Wife in a revival of Into the Woods, alongside Donna Murphy, Jessie Mueller and Denis O’Hare. A 2012 review of Into the Woods on New York Theatre Guide raved, "Amy Adams... is a delicious surprise all around."

A decade later, she went on to make her West End debut in The Glass Menagerie as Amanda Wingfield.
