Eddie Redmayne

Born in London in 1982, Eddie Redmayne is an Academy Award-winning screen actor, best known for starring in Red on stage and Les Miserables on film. In 2021, he’ll return to the West End to play the Emcee in a site-specific production of Cabaret.

Redmayne began his theatre training from an early age, attending Jackie Palmer Stage School at the age of 10. At theatre school, he performed in productions opposite James Corden (the pair are now both Tony Award winners). After being educated at Eton College, he studied History of Art at the University of Cambridge.

In his final year at Cambridge, he made his professional debut as Viola in Twelfth Night at Shakespeare’s Globe. He quickly became a regular on the London stage, giving an award-winning performance in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? at the Almeida Theatre, Hecuba at the Donmar Warehouse and Now or Later at the Royal Court.

Redmayne was thrust into the spotlight in the 2010s, cast in Red at the Donmar Warehouse. For playing Ken, Redmayne won his first Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, later giving a Tony Award-winning turn in the play’s Broadway transfer. He has also portrayed Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.

In November 2021, Redmayne will return to the stage, playing the Emcee in Cabaret. He’ll perform alongside Jessie Buckley in a brand new adaptation, which is directed by Rebecca Frecknall.
