Iwan Rheon

Olivier Award-winning actor Iwan Rheon was born in 1985 in Carmarthen. Rheon began to show an interest in theatre at school, where he took part in school drama productions. Landing a role in Welsh soap opera Pobol y Cym at the age of 17, he was later spotted at a National Eisteddfod of Wales. He then left Wales to begin professional training at LAMDA.

His first professional theatre credit was in 2008, where Rheon played Al in Jim Cartwright’s Eight Miles High at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre. Later that year, he was cast as Moritz Stiefel in the West End premiere of Spring Awakening. Opening at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2009, the show ran for two months. Rheon won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his performance of Moritz Stiefel at the 2010 Olivier Awards.

Rheon’s next show saw him return to Wales, performing in The Devil Inside Him in 2010 at the National Theatre Wales to rave reviews. He then starred in Aleksey Scherbak’s Remembrance Day in 2011 as part of the Royal Court Theatre’s international playwright season. Looking at the politically charged tensions in modern-day Latvia, Remembrance Day was developed from Royal Court workshops in Moscow in 2008 and 2009. After a break away from the stage, Rheon returned to the West End in Foxfinder at the Ambassador Theatre in 2018.

Notable television roles include Simon Bellamy in Misfits and Dylan Smith in Our Girl. Rheon is famously known for his character Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones, starring in the HBO hit from 2013-2016.
