Review - Habeas Corpus at the Donmar Warehouse 1996

This is one of the funniest comedies on the West End at the moment with some superb acting. It is very difficult to pick out the best performers as all played their part so well.

This farce is definitely well cast with Jim Broadbent as Arthur the general practitioner who doesn't have any intimate contact with Muriel his wife played by Brenda Blethyn. (She has recently won best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival ). Instead he chases after other women, while his wife craves for sexual attention. Then there's his wimp son who's an hypochondriac, and his celibate sister who wants bigger boobs. The cleaning lady played by Imelda Staunton gets the best lines as she narrates the play and many more characters who are just as funny make this a joy to watch. This play is only on a short run of around 6 weeks, but hopefully it will transfer to a big West End venue it deserves.
