When their musical opened on Broadway, audiences took Benj Pasek, Justin Paul and Steven Levenson's Dear Evan Hansen to their hearts. Its message about the power of social media in the world we live in, especially with the pressures put on young people in the modern age, is difficult to shake off.

Coupled with an infectious and powerful score from the brains behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman's Pasek and Paul, and a heartfelt book in the hands of writer Levenson, it became one of the must-see musical hits of the decade.

And last year, London finally found itself with a West End production of its own, which has just been nominated for seven Olivier Awards in April, not only for its unique score, but for five of its brilliant cast (meaning more than half of the cast are nominees).

With the show now in full swing at the Noel Coward Theatre, as well as receiving the royal seal of approval from Prince William in February, the show's creators found time for a rare interview together to speak about their process of writing the musical, how it differs from writing their Academy Award-winning films, and how important it is to choose the perfect cast for Dear Evan Hansen's roles. You can watch the full, uncut interview above.

Dear Evan Hansen is booking at the Noel Coward Theatre until 27th June 2020.

Dear Evan Hansen tickets are available now.
