Following the success of the Rebecca Frecknall's atmospheric production of one of Tennessee Williams' lesser-known plays, Summer and Smoke , at the Almeida, Patsy Ferran and Matthew Needham sat down to chat about the play transferring to the West End's Duke of York's Theatre.

The play sees a childhood friendship grow and stretch into an obsessive fascination and relationship between Alma (Ferran) and John (Needham) in a small Deep Southern town.

Frecknall's production, which received rave reviews at the beginning of this year, had a certain musical feel to it: pianos line Tom Scutt's stage, which is where we sat down with the actors to talk about the play and bringing it to the West End.

Summer and Smoke is at the Duke of York's Theatre until 19th January.

Summer and Smoke tickets are available now.
