Almeida's 1984 transfers to the Playhouse Theatre

The Almeida Theatre's current production of 1984 will transfer to the Playhouse Theatre in London's West End, opening on 8 May 2014, following previews from 28 April for a limited 12-week season until 19 July 2014.

Adapted from the novel by George Orwell by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan, 1984 will be produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions, Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Tulchin Bartner Productions along with Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse and Almeida Theatre.

1984 was originally published in 1949 and went on to become one of the most popular and well read dystopian novels of the 20th Century. It is responsible for coining the term 'Big Brother', along with the now popular concept of 'Room 101' and 'thoughtcrimes'.

Tickets for the West End transfer are on sale today, with 101 tickets available for each performance for just £19.84. The production was originally seen at the Nottingham Playhouse in September 2013, and features designs by Chloe Lamford along with video by Tim Reid. Casting for the West End transfer is yet to be announced.
