It has been announced that Broadway royalty Audra McDonald will perform a one night only concert in London at the Leicester Square Theatre in central London on 17 January 2016.

Described by the New York Times as a "defining voice of our time," the performer has not appeared in London for over ten years. She has won a record breaking six Tony Awards for her work in both musicals and plays on Broadway, along with two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award.

McDonald was classically trained at the Juilliard School in New York, and has performed alongside almost every major American orchestra - from the New York Philharmonic to the Berlin Philharmonic. She is as well known for her solo concerts as she is her Broadway credits, and has performed at New York's legendary Carnegie Hall seventeen times.

Her Tony Award-winning Broadway credits include Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun, Carousel, Masterclass, Ragtime, and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, along with nominations for roles in 110 in the Shade and Marie Christine. She is soon to return to Broadway once again in the revival of Shuffle Along at the Music Box Theatre.

The concert is set to feature favourites from Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Stephen Sondheim, and will allow audiences the chance to see her in an intimate concert setting.

Tickets for her UK concert engagement will go on sale at 10am on Wed 2 December 2015.
