Rose Theatre Kingston's production of Captain Corelli's Mandolin will transfer to the West End for an eight-week run at the Harold Pinter Theatre this summer.

Based on the best-selling novel by Louis de Bernières, the play is an epic love story set on a Greek island where a doctor lives on the island with his daughter Pelagia, and it  follows the Italian captain Antonio Corelli during the Italian and German occupation during the Second World War.

The book was first released in 1994 and has been adapted for radio for the BBC, into a film starring Nicholas Cage and Penelope Cruz, and stage. Directed by Melly Still and adapted by Rona Munro, this production first ran at Rose Theatre Kingston earlier this year.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin will transfer to the Harold Pinter Theatre from 4th July, and run until 31st August.

Announcing the West End transfer, de Bernières said: "I am delighted that this production of Captain Corelli's Mandolin is moving to the West End.

"The play is faithful to my story, movingly told, and the direction and acting are superb. It deserves a long run."

The cast of the West End transfer will feature Alex Mugnaioni as Captain Corelli, Madison Clare as Pelagia and Joseph Long as Dr Iannis. The complete cast features Ryan Donaldson, Ashley Gayle, Fred Fergus, Graeme Dalling, Eliot Giuralarocca, Luisa Guerreiro, Kezrena James, Eve Polycarpou, John Sandeman, Stewart Scudamore, Kate Spencer and Elizabeth Mary Williams.

Still's production will feature set and costume designs by Mayou Trikerioti, lighting by Malcom Rippeth, sound by Jon Nicholls, projections by Dom Baker and music by Harry Blake.
