Cast announced for 'Samira' at the National Theatre

Carmen Nasr's new play is set during the Arab Spring and follows a Middle Eastern Studies department thrown into crisis when a young Syrian blogger vanishes.

Casting has been revealed for Carmen Nasr's Samira, which opens in the National's Dorfman Theatre on 4 February, running through 13 March 2027.

The cast will include May Calamawy (Ramy) in the title role, Joshua McGuire (The Gold) as Dan, Lily Olufemi-Bywaters (Toto Kerblammo!) as Maya, Sirine Saba (Phaedra) as Rana, Karim Saleh (Luxor) as Kamil, and Antonia Salib (Hijack) as Amira.

Nasr's (Under the Shadow) new play is set during the Arab Spring, and it follows a Middle Eastern Studies department in London as it is thrown into crisis when a young Syrian blogger vanishes without a trace. The show is inspired by true events.

Joining director Emily Burns in the artistic team are set and costume designer Frankie Bradshaw, lighting designer Joshua Pharo, sound designer George Dennis, video designer Akhila Krishnan, illusions designer Chris Fisher, and voice coach Shereen Ibrahim.
