Cast joining David Mitchell in Upstart Crow stage play announced
Full casting has been announced for the upcoming stage adaptation of Shakespeare sitcom Upstart Crow, opening at the Gielgud Theatre next year.
David Mitchell makes his West End debut as the Bard, William Shakespeare, reprising his starring role from the BBC comedy, alongside Gemma Whelan who plays Kate, an aspiring actor urging the playwright to cast her in one of his plays.
A number of actors from the sitcom will also be appearing in the stage production, including Helen Monks, who plays Shakespeare's daughter Susanna, Rob Rouse as household servant Bottom, Steve Spiers as actor Richard Burbage, and Mark Heap, who originally played Shakespeare's nemesis Robert Greene, as new character Dr John Hall.
They will be joined by Danielle Phillips as Judith, Rachel Summers as Desiree and Jason Callender as Arragon.
The TV show's creator Ben Elton is adapting the series for the stage, and it will be directed by Sean Foley, whose production of The Man in the White Suit is currently running at Wyndham's Theatre.
Upstart Crow is at the Gielgud Theatre from 7th February, with an official opening on 17th February.
