Joshua Harmon’s personal play brings to life his childhood in New York, caught between his eccentric grandmother and his mother.
Casting has been revealed for the UK premiere of Joshua Harmon's We Had A World, which begins performances at Hampstead Theatre in London on 29 May running through 4 July.
Harmon’s personal play brings to life his childhood in New York, caught between his eccentric grandmother and his mother.
The cast will include Olivier Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated Suzanne Bertish (Troilus & Cressida, Star Wars: Andor) as Renee, Anna Francolini (London Road, Sex Education) as Ellen, and Ryan Kopel (The Inheritance, Dear Evan Hansen) as Joshua.
Director Josh Seymour makes his Hampstead Theatre debut. He said: “I am so excited to work with this phenomenal cast to bring Joshua Harmon’s captivating play to life. Experiencing the dazzling talents of these acclaimed actors at such close quarters, in a play full of emotional fireworks, will be a real treat for audiences. It’s a deeply personal piece, exploring Joshua’s relationship with his fascinating, elusive grandmother, which moves me every time I read it. I have no doubt it will resonate with everyone who has experienced those strange moments when your perspective on someone you thought you knew inside out is turned upside down.”
The creative team has design by Sarah Beaton, lighting design by Joshua Gadsby and sound design by Lex Kosanke, with movement director Ingrid Mackinnon, fight director Bethan Clark, dialect coach Aundrea Fudge, and voice coach Tess Dignan.
