David Tennant makes West End return in Patrick Marber’s Don Juan in Soho - Tickets now on sale

The Doctor Who stars returns to London's West End in 2017

It has been announced that ex-Doctor Who star David Tennant will return to the West End in 2017 in Patrick Marber's play Don Juan in Soho. The production will run at the Wyndham's Theatre in spring 2017, directed by the author for a limited eleven week season from 17 March to 10 June 2017, with an official opening on 28 March 2017.

Patrick Marber, who is also directing the West End transfer of Travesties, originally wrote the play in 2006 for a production at the Donmar Warehouse starring Rhys Ifans. This new production will feature set and costume design by Anne Fleischle and sound and music by Adam Cork.

Described as a contemporary take on the classic Molière comedy, the play received strong reviews when it originally opened in London.

Marber relocates Moliere's farcical, tragic and anarchic original 1665 play to modern day Soho amid swanky new hotels and festering, old clip joints. The destitute, the delirious, the broken and the brazen, the hustlers and hoorays, the media movers and merciless whores - all packed in to one seething square mile. Amongst them is Don Juan, the infamous amoral hedonist who is in a society entranced by sensation.

David Tennant previously starred at the Wyndham's Theatre in 2001, playing Benedick alongside Catherine Tate's Beatrice in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. His most recent West End stage role was in the RSC's production of Richard II which ran at the Barbican Theatre and later transferred to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. In 2008 he starred in the RSC's production of Hamlet which ran at the Novello Theatre and became one of the most popular plays of the year.

His TV and film roles have seen him attract a wide audience thanks to lead roles in 'Doctor Who', 'Broadchurch', 'Casanova', 'Jessica Jones', and 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'.

Don Juan in Soho is produced in the West End by Matthew Byam Shaw, Nia Janis and Nick Salmon for Playful Productions in association with Sonia Friedman Productions.
