Following the official opening of the West End premiere of Dreamgirls at the Savoy Theatre, producers have announced that the show has extended its booking period to 21 October 2017.

Dreamgirls began preview performances at the Savoy on 19 November, with an official opening on 14 December 2016, where it opened to glowing reviews: "much more that a "One Night Only" event; this is a show that commands multiple visits to fall in love with it over and over again." (LondonTheatre); "a musical full of sparkle" (Guardian); "a show with tremendous gusto of soul" (Telegraph); "spectacularly entertaining" (Hollywood Reporter).

The musical, which originally premiered on Broadway in 1981, features book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger. The London premiere is directed by Casey Nicholaw.

Amber Riley stars as 'Effie White' alongside Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones and Ibinabo Jack as Lorrell Robinson. They are joined by Joe Aaron Reid as Curtis Taylor Jr, Adam J. Bernard as Jimmy Early, Tyrone Huntley as C.C. White, Nicholas Bailey as Marty and Lily Frazer as Michelle Morris. Ruth Brown and Karen Mav will alternate the role of Effie White at performances when Amber Riley is not scheduled to perform.

"Dreamgirls transports you to a revolutionary time in American music history. Dreamgirls charts the tumultuous journey of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams', as they learn the hard lesson that show business is as tough as it is fabulous, and features the classic songs 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going', 'I Am Changing', 'Listen' and 'One Night Only' ."

The production features set design by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Richard Brooker and musical supervision by Nick Finlow.

Dreamgirls originally opened on Broadway in 1981 in a production directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett. It went on to win six Tony Awards, along with two Grammy awards for Best Musical Album and Best Vocal Performance for Jennifer Holliday's 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going.'

Tickets for the new booking period will go on sale at 12 noon on 16 December 2016.
