Edward and Freddie Fox to star in Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband

Edward and Freddie Fox is set to star in the next production in Dominic Dromgoole's Oscar Wilde season at the Vaudeville Theatre, An Ideal Husband.

The play is set during a dinner party at the home of Member of Parliament, Sir Robert Chiltern and his wife Lady Gertrude Chiltern. The guests include their close friend and bachelor Lord Goring, Sir Robert's sister Mabel, and Lady Gertrude's school day nemesis Mrs Cheveley.

Freddie Fox will play Lord Goring in the production. Fox won third prize at the 2016 Ian Charleson Awards, which recognise exceptional classical stage performances by actors under the age of 30, for his role in Romeo and Juliet in Sheffield. He went on to play Romeo in Kenneth Branagh's production of the play in 2016 when both the main actor and understudy were forced to withdraw. Oter stage credits include Travesties (Menier Chocolate Factory), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Southwark Playhouse) and Hay Fever (Noel Coward Theatre).

Frances Barber will play Mrs Cheveley in the production. The actress has previously been nominated for Olivier Awards for her performances in Camille (1985) and Uncle Vanya (1997).  Recent credits include Julius Caesar (Donmar Warehouse), The Seagull and King Lear (New London Theatre).

Edward Fox will play Lord Goring's father the Earl of Caversham. His previous theatre credits include playing Winston Churchill in The Audience in 2013, and the 2010 one-man show An Evening with Anthony Trollope, which was directed by Richard Digby Day.

An Ideal Husband is at the Vaudeville Theatre from 20th April to 24th June.
