FIONA SHAW EXPECTED TO STAR IN "MEDEA" AT THE QUEENS IN JAN 01

It is reported that Fiona Shaw, will star in the title role of Euripides's tragedy Medea, at the Queens Theatre on 30th Jan 01, following previews from 19th Jan 01. This production, from Dublin's Abbey Theatre, is directed by Deborah Warner and is expected to run for a limited season to 14th April 01

A production of Medea was last in the West End in 1994, when the title role was played by Diana Rigg.

Fiona Shaw's, West End credits include the title role in "Richard II" at the Cottesloe, NT in 1995 and  "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" at the Lyttelton, NT in 1998.

Medea is a woman so consumed by hatred of her adulterous husband that she murders their two sons to spite him.
