Francesca Mills will star in a new production of Jim Cartwright's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Performances begin in the Dorfman theatre this December.

The play will return to the National Theatre for the first time since its premiere in the then Cottesloe theatre in 1992.

Mills was last seen on stage in the National Theatre's production of Hamlet, starring Hiran Abeysekera. Our critic said of her performance: "Ophelia’s turn to madness is made shattering by Francesca Mills: her eyes brim with tears at Hamlet’s initial rejection, marking the beginning of the tragedies that follow. She tips from being a quick-witted, lively presence into a fragile shadow of herself."

The production will reunite Mills and director Robert Hastie following Hamlet.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice features iconic music from the likes of Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Shirley Bassey and more.

Further casting to be announced.
