Producers of the upcoming West End production of  Alexi Kate Campbell's Apologia, directed by Jamie Lloyd, have announced additional casting today.

"Doctor Who" and "Torchwood" star Freema Agyeman takes on the role of Claire and joins previously announced Tony and Emmy Award winner Stockard Channing (as Kristin Miller). In addition, Olivier Award nominee Desmond Barrit will take on the role of Hugh - Kristin's longtime friend and ally - whilst Joseph Millson has been cast in the dual roles of Kristin's sons.

Freema Agyeman commented: "I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the cast of Apologia. It's right up my street and had me roaring with laughter! It's fun. It's clever. It's deeply insightful. And I feel I couldn't be in safer, more experienced hands for my theatre debut than those of Alexi Kaye Campbell and Jamie Lloyd. Or in better company than the inimitable Stockard Channing!"

Besides her TV role as Martha Jones opposite David Tennant in "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood," Freema also stars as Amanita in Netflix's hit show "Sense8"  and also starred in the UK version of "Law and Order."

Desmond Barrit earned an Olivier Award nomination for his performance as Falstaff in Sir Peter Hall's critically acclaimed Henry IV Parts I and II, whilst Joseph Millson is perhaps best known for his recent TV work on the BBC's "The Last Kingdom" and "Banished." Both have worked extensively for the Royal Shakespeare Company and at the National Theatre.

Alexi Kate Campbell's Apologia will run at the Trafalgar Studios from 29 July to 18 November 2017, with an official opening set for 3 August.

"Kristin Miller is a firebrand liberal matriarch and eminent art historian. In her cottage, deep in the English countryside, a birthday gathering should be a time of celebration but the cracks in her family relationships are brought to the surface by the recent publication of her memoir. As the evening progresses, Kristin's family and friends, and ultimately Kristin herself begin to question her achievements and choices and if they were indeed worth the sacrifice."

Apologia originally ran at the Bush Theatre in West London in 2009 and was Campbell's second play following the Olivier Award-winning The Pride, which also ran at Trafalgar Studios.

Alexi Kaye Campbell's other works include The Pride, Sunset at The Villa Thalia at the National Theatre and The Faith Machine at the Royal Court. Jamie Lloyd returns to Trafalgar Studios after recent productions of The Maids, The Ruling Class and Macbeth.

Stockard Channing is best known for playing Rizzo in the film version of 'Grease' in 1978. Her screen credits include 'The West Wing' and she has been nominated 13 times for Primetime Emmy Awards. Her work on stage has seen her nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning the award for Best Actress in a Play for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg in 1985. Other Broadway credits include Other Desert Cities, the musical Pal Joey and It's Only a Play.
