Hamlet cancels perfs 10th through 17th April 2006

English Touring Theatre's production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, have cancelled performances from 10th through 17th April 2006. Performances will resume on Tuesday 18th April and the final show will take place as scheduled on Saturday 22nd April 2006.

Starring Ed Stoppard as Hamlet, the play opened at the New Ambassadors Theatre 20 Feb 2006, following previews from 13 Feb to positive notices from the popular press: NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Anaemic, surprisingly vacuous production." ALASTAIR MACAULAY for THE FINANCIAL TIMES says, "The whole thing is juiceless and fatally contained." LYN GARDENER for THE GUARDIAN says, "There can be virtue in plainness, and Unwin's intimate production tells the story exceptionally well without any of those directorial flourishes that are so often a feature of contemporary Shakespeare." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "As clear as it is spare." CHARLES SPENCER for DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Fine Hamlet."

The cast includes: Ed Stoppard (Hamlet), Anita Dobson (Gertrude), Alice Patten (Ophelia), David Robb (Claudius), Michael Cronin (Polonius), Sam Hezeldine (Horatio), Ben Warwick (Laertes).

It is directed by Stephen Unwin , designed by Michael Vale , lighting by Malcolm Rippeth , costumes by Mark Bouman .
