Star of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Orlando Bloom will be appearing in London's West End this summer in the Tracy Letts' play Killer Joe.

Bloom is no stranger to the stage. In 2007, he made his West End debut in a play called In Celebration which is about three brothers who visit their parents' on their 40th wedding anniversary. He has also appeared on Broadway, performing in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet alongside Condola Rashad.

From May 2018, Bloom will be returning to the theatre to appear in the play Killer Joe.

What is Killer Joe?

Written by Tracy Letts in 1993, the play is about The Smith family, who plot to murder their wealthy matriarch and claim her insurance money. To do so, they hire Joe Cooper - played by Bloom - who is a police detective-turned-hitman. However, when the family can't pay Cooper's fee in cash, he suggests an alternative payment, one which involves a member of the family directly.

Who else is in Killer Joe?

The cast joining Orlando Bloom in Killer Joe includes Adam Gillen (who plays Liam in Benidorm), Steffan Rhodri (Dave of Dave's Coaches in Gavin and Stacey), Sophie Cookson (of the Kingsman films) and Neve McIntosh (who played Madame Vastra in Doctor Who).

When can I see Killer Joe?

Killer Joe is scheduled to run between 18th May and 18th August, Mondays to Fridays. Performances begin at 7.30pm, and there will be matinee performances at 2.30pm on Thursday and Saturday.

Where will Killer Joe be performed?

The play will be performed at Trafalgar Studio One, a 380-seat theatre which is on Whitehall near Trafalgar Square in central London.  The nearest train station and London Underground station is Charing Cross.
