Björn Ulvaeus' Mamma Mia-themed theatrical experience will run in London at The O2 next spring, it has been announced.

Following the success of the stage musical and two blockbuster films, ABBA songwriter Ulvaeus will launch a special theatrical and dining experience in a specially-adapted venue within The O2 complex into 'Nikos' Taverna', which will be able to accommodate around 500 people.

Mamma Mia! The Party will run at The O2 in late spring 2019, with tickets going on sale later this year.

Ulvaeus has been quoted as saying he was inspired by watching audiences at the musical of Mamma Mia, and wondering if the party mood could continue into the night.

Now, audience members will be able to party in a traditional Greek tavern, sampling traditional Mediterranean food and drink, whilst dancing into the night to ABBA's greatest hits.

On bringing the show to The O2, Ulvaeus said: "We believe bringing Mamma Mia! The Party to The O2 will add to this already vibrant cultural destination and provide the perfect location for our exciting new show."

Last year, the plans for the experience were announced following a successful run in Stockholm, and producers were originally looking at sites on the South Bank, before settling on The O2.

The musical Mamma Mia! opened in London in April 1999, and a film adaptation and recent sequel followed, starring Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried.

Mamma Mia the Party will run at The O2 late spring 2019.
