Initial casting revealed for 'The Producers' at the Menier Chocolate Factory
Directed by Tony Award-winning director Patrick Marber, the musical will star Hello, Dolly!'s Andy Nyman, Marc Antolin, Harry Morrison, and Joanna Woodward.
Initial casting has been announced for Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan’s The Producers, which opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London on 9 December.
Directed by Tony Award-winning director Patrick Marber (Leopoldstadt), the musical will star Andy Nyman (Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly!) as Max Bialystock, Marc Antolin (The Band’s Visit, Romantics Anonymous) as Leo Bloom, Harry Morrison (Beetlejuice, Assassins) Franz Liebkind, and Joanna Woodward (The Time Traveller’s Wife: The Musical, Merrily We Roll Along) as Ulla, with Charis Alexandra, Michael Franks, Matt Gillett, Leah Harris, Hana Ichijo, Esme Kennedy, Josh Kiernan, Alex Lodge, Kelsie-Rae Marshall, and Chloe Saunders.
The production is the first major London revival of The Producers, which opened at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in the West End in 2004, closing in 2007 after 920 performances. The original Broadway production won 12 Tony Awards after opening at the St. James Theatre in 2001.
The musical is based on the 1967 film of the same name and follows a failing Broadway producer and his accountant as they scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history.
The creative team has direction by Patrick Marber, choreography by Lorin Latarro, set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting design by Richard Howell, sound design by Niamh Gaffney and Terry Jardine for Autograph, musical supervision by Gareth Valentine, musical direction by Matthew Samer, and orchestrations by Larry Blank and Mark Cumberland.
