James Graham play 'Major' to open at National Theatre

James Graham, known for his plays Dear England, Punch, and Ink, will reunite with director Jeremy Herrin for Major.

Leading playwright James Graham will bring his new play Major to the National's Olivier theatre in spring/summer 2027. The play has been revealed as part of the venue's 2027 season announcement.

Graham, known for his plays Dear England, Punch, and Ink, will reunite with director Jeremy Herrin (People, Places & Things) following their collaboration on This House, which opened at the venue in 2012.

Political drama Major will follow former Prime Minister John Major as he rose from Whip to leader of the country, taking over from Margaret Thatcher and promising the UK an entirely new leadership style.

Graham's The Standard of Living opens in the West End on 21 September.

Further artistic team, casting, and performance dates are to be announced.
