La bohème Returns to the King's Head

The King's Head Theatre will stage a radical new version of Puccini's opera La bohème

The King's Head Theatre, a pub theatre in north London, have announced that they will produce a radical new version of La bohème, featuring music by Giacomo Puccini and libretto by  Adam Spreadbury-Maher & Becca Marriott running from 31 August to 8 October 2016, with official press opening on 5 September 2016.

The venue previously featured a production of La bohème, directed by Robin Norton-Hale in 2011 which went on to transfer to the Soho Theatre and the King's Head and won Best New Opera at the Olivier awards in 2011. This new production will be directed by Spreadbury-Maher who will focus upon the quintessential quartet - Mimi, Musetta, Rodolfo (Ralph) and Marcello (Mark) lifting the story from early 19th century to present day East London. The production will lay bare the dangerous and damaging effects of co-dependent relationships against a backdrop of spiraling rents and social media.

The cast will feature Roberto Abate, Stephanie Edwards, Thomas Humphreys, Matthew Kimble and Becca Marriott.

It will have musical direction by Panaretos Kyriatzidis with design by Becky-Dee Trevenen and lighting design by Nic Farman. 

Tickets for the production will go on sale on 17 June 2016.
