Mark Curry as The Wizard in Wicked from 25 March

The West End production of Wicked, which is currently running at the Apollo Victoria Theatre where it is booking to 29 April 2017, has announced that Mark Curry will take over the role of 'The Wizard' from 25 March 2016.

The role is currently being played for a limited season by American actor Tom McGowan, until Saturday 12 March 2016.

Mark Curry is best known for presenting BBC children's television programme 'Blue Peter', from 1986 to 1990. His theatre credits include 'Victor/Victoria' and 'Company' at Southwark Playhouse, 'The Rocky Horror Show' UK tour and Victoria Wood's 'Talent' at Menier Chocolate Factory.

The cast also includes Emma Hatton (Elphaba), Savannah Stevenson (Glinda), Oliver Savile (Fiyero), Liza Sadovy (Madame Morrible), Sean Kearns (Doctor Dillamond), Daniel Hope (Boq), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose), Natalie Andreou (Standby for Elphaba) and Carina Gillespie (Standby for Glinda).

The show opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre 27 Sep 2006, following previews from 7 September, and has since been seen by over 7 million people. Wicked is now the 9th longest-running show in the West End.

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman.

It is directed by Joe Mantello, scenic design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner, sound by Tony Meola, orchestrations by William David Brohn, musical staging by Wayne Cilento.

Synopsis: "Two girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, feisty and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very, very popular. Wicked is the story of these two unlikely friends and how they end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch."
