Matt Cardle will join the cast of the West End production of Strictly Ballroom, taking over from Will Young at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Cardle burst onto the scene when he won the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010, and his version of Biffy Clyro's "Many of Horror" went straight to number one. In 2015, he made his acting debut in the West End production of Memphis.

He will now take over from Will Young in the role of Wally Strand, the band leader in the show, from 31st July. Tickets for Strictly Ballroom are available now.

Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom originally opened in Leeds in 2016, and has been radically changed for its current West End production, which included the introduction of the band leader who sings all the songs in the musical's score, including "Time After Time" and "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps".

The cast of the musical also includes Jonny Labey, who plays a competitive ballroom dancer who refuses to abide by the strict rule in place, and finds solace in Zizi Strallen's character who encourages him to dance the way he wants to.

Strictly Ballroom is at the Piccadilly Theatre until 20th October.

Strictly Ballroom tickets are available now.
