Matthew Bourne's Olivier Award-winning production The Red Shoes is set to return to London this Christmas as part of a national tour.

Having first premiered at Sadler's Wells in 2016, the production is an adaptation of the 1948 film by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, which tells the story of a ballerina called Victoria Page who joins an established ballet company. The film is in turn based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.

Directed and choreographed by Bourne and set to the music of Bernard Herrman, the production won the Olivier Awards for best choreographer and best entertainment in 2017.

The Red Shoes will return to London at Sadler's Wells this Christmas from 3rd December to 19th January, after a UK tour begins in Salford in November.

With orchestrations by Terry Davies played by the New Adventures Orchestra, the production has cinematic designs by Lez Brotherson, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Paul Groothuis and projections by Duncan McLean.

The Red Shoes is at Sadler's Wells from 3rd December 2019 to 19th January 2020.
