Based on Anne Fine’s 1987 novel Alias Madame Doubtfire, and the 1993 Mrs. Doubtfire film starring Robin Williams, Mrs. Doubtfire follows Daniel Hillard, a newly-divorced and out-of-work actor. After losing custody of his children, Daniel disguises himself as Euphegenia Doubtfire and works in his ex-wife’s home.

The Mrs. Doubtfire musical premiered at 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in 2019, ahead of a Broadway transfer to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in 2020. Mrs. Doubtfire played 43 previews and 83 regular performances on Broadway, with its lead actor Rob McClure nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

In a Mrs. Doubtfire review on New York Theatre Guide, a critic said: “The score by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick is varied and summons pop, disco, and power ballads to nudge the story along… Mrs. Doubtfire calms down just in time for an evergreen teachable moment. Mrs. D gently reminds that families come in all varieties, which brings the story full circle.”

Mrs. Doubtfire played at Manchester’s Opera House for four weeks. The Mrs. Doubtfire cast includes Gabriel Vick as Daniel Hillard, Carla Dixon Hernandez as Lydia Hillard, Cameron Blakely as Frank Hillard, Marcus Collins as Andre, Dominic Andersen as Stuart, Joshua Dever, Samuel Wilson-Freeman, Maria Garrett, Kiera Haynes, Adam Lyons, Lisa Mathieson, Ellie Mitchell, Matt Overfield, Tom Scanlon, Vicki Lee Taylor and Rebecca Donnelly, Amy Everett and Paulo Teixeira. Further casting will be revealed at a later date.

Mrs. Doubtfire features a story by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell. Jerry Zaks directs, with choreography by Lorin Latarro, set design by David Korins, costume design Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Philip S Rosenberg, and sound design by Brian Ronan.
