'Pacific Overtures' sets full London cast

A revival of the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman musical, directed by Matthew White, will play at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 25 November to 24 February.

Complete casting has been set for the latest revival of Pacific Overtures in London. The musical will run from 25 November to 24 February only at the Menier Chocolate Factory, with opening night on 4 December.

The Pacific Overtures cast includes Jon Chew as Reciter, Kanako Nakano as Tamate, Saori Oda as Shogun/Madam, Takuro Ohno as Kayama, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes as Manjiro. The ensemble includes Luoran Ding, Masashi Fujimoto, Rachel Hayne Picar, Eu Jin Hwang, Abel Law, Ethan Le Phong, JoJo Meredith, Patrick Munday, Sario Solomon, Joy Tan, Lee V G, and Iverson Yabut.

The creative team, led by director Matthew White, includes set designer Paul Farnsworth, costume designer Ayako Maeda, sound designer Gregory Clarke, choreographer Ashley Nottingham, music supervisor Catherine Jayes, music director Paul Bogaev, orchestrator Jonathan Tunick, hair and makeup designer Wakana Yoshihara, and cultural consultant You-Ri Yamanaka.

Pacific Overtures dramatizes the Westernization of Japan, beginning in 1853, when the U.S. entered the country and opened it to the world. The show features a book by John Weidman and songs by Stephen Sondheim.
