Paul Anderson to make West End debut in Molière’s Tartuffe

Casting has been announced for the upcoming West End production of Molière's Tartuffe at Theatre Royal Haymarket in May. 

Paul Anderson, known for his roles in the BBC series Peaky Blinders and the Oscar-winning film The Revenant, will make his West End debut as the title character. Tartuffe is an American evangelist who disrupts the life of a French tycoon who moves his family from France to LA. 

He will be joined by Audrey Fleurot, known for appearing in The Intouchables and Spiral, who will play Orgon's wife Elmire. The French actress has an extensive theatre career in her home country, and recently appeared in Luc Bondy's production of the play in Théâtre de l'Odéon, Paris. 

Gerald Garutti directs Christopher Hampton's adaptation of the classic for the Theatre Royal Haymarket, which updates the piece and sets it in present day America. It will run from 25th May to 28th July.

The piece will alternate between English language with French surtitles, and vice versa. When the production was announced, Hampton said: "When Gérald Garutti and Oliver King suggested a bilingual version with an English-speaking Tartuffe, it seemed a fascinating way to approach this perennial classic and situate it in today's bewildering world."

The production will have compositions by Laurent Petitgand, designs by Tim Goodchild, lighting by Paul Anderson and sound design by David Gregory. Further casting is to be announced. 

Tartuffe is at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 25th May to 28th July.
