Production images released for King Lear in the West End
Production images have been released for King Lear in the West End, starring Ian McKellen.
Jonathan Munby's production has transferred to the Duke of York's Theatre this summer following a critically-acclaimed run at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2017. In The Guardian, Michael Billington described McKellen's performance as "superbly detailed... a permanent close-up of a soul in torment".
Ahead of the Chichester run, McKellen spoke about how King Lear could be his last major Shakespearean role.
Sinéad Cusack (Kent), Danny Webb (Gloucester), Kirsty Bushell (Regan), Richard Clews, John Hastings, Michael Matus and Caleb Roberts have also reprised their roles in Munby's production.
The production has designs by Paul Wills, lighting by Oliver Fenwick, music and sound by Ben Ringham and Max Ringham, movement direction by Lucy Cullingford and fight direction by Kate Waters.
It has also been announced that the production will be broadcast to cinemas across the world via NT Live on 27 September.
King Lear runs at the Duke of York's Theatre until 3 November.
