Programme announced for Virtual West End LIVE on 20-21 June
Quizzes, sing-a-longs, and the best performances from the past, as 'the stagiest weekend of the year' goes online.
West End LIVE, London's annual two-day celebration of the best of West End theatre, has announced the programme for its virtual 2020 festivities. The event, which usually takes place in Trafalgar Square each June, is the latest to be impacted by COVID-19 and social distancing measures. The virtual celebration will take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June.
In place of the large-scale outdoor concerts, this year's online line-up will feature theatre quizzes, exclusive playlists, sing-a-longs and requests - alongside two one-hour highlights programmes, reliving some of the most memorable live performances from past events.
Activity will be hosted across several platforms, including West End LIVE's official Facebook page and website. Full details of the programme can be found here.
West End LIVE is held each year by the Society of London Theatre, and is one of the most important dates on the London theatre calendar. The outdoor concerts, which celebrated their 15th anniversary in 2019, were originally held in Leicester Square. The event was relocated to Trafalgar Square in 2011, allowing for more fans to enjoy performances. The event routinely attracts half a million visitors across the weekend.
Each year, the majority of West End musicals perform at the event, giving an exclusive free preview of top shows to those in attendance. Shows featured in 2019 included Disney's Aladdin, Come From Away, Tina - The Tina Turner Musical, Six The Musical and & Juliet.
