Breakout Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page is eyeing a West End return in a new adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
Joel Horwood and Maria Aberg are adapting F Scott Fitzgerald’s 1920s novel about old and new money, with Page as Gatsby and signed on as a producer, along with Melting Pot's Simon Friend.
The actor, who is best known for his screen work in films such as Black Bag and The Gray Man, was last seen on stage in The Merchant of Venice at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2015.
The news was first reported in Deadline, but dates, venue, and additional casting are yet to be announced. Michael Longhurst, former artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse, will direct.
Speaking to Deadline, Page said: "I’ve been looking for the right thing to do on stage for years, and this piece’s delicate balance of spectacle and real human intimacy is something Mike [Longhurst] and I have always looked to excite and move audiences with. After we read it, we just both said: ‘My God, it’s perfect. We have to do it.’”
