Romeo and Juliet - The Musical to close 8 Feb 03

It has been announced that Romeo and Juliet, the French musical by Gerard Presgurvic, with English language lyrics by Don Black & David Freeman, is to close at the at the Piccadilly Theatre on Sat 8 Feb 03, after a run of only 4 months.

The show has been doing badly at the box office since opening last year to poor notices from the popular press: SHERIDAN MORLEY says, "The acting goes from inadequate to terrible....Shambles" THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Dire musical". THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, " It's witless, banal, clumsily staged, abysmally written and often buttock-clenchingly embarrassing." THE INDEPENDENT says, "An unholy mess." THE GUARDIAN says, "Bland and boring."

The cast includes TV and recording star Jane McDonald (Nurse) , 15 year-old Lorna Want (Juliet), and Andrew Bevis (Romeo)

The show is directed by David Freeman and designed by David Roger and includes 20 original songs.
