Ruthless! the Musical looks towards a London run

The off-Broadway hit heads to London.

It has been announced that the recent off-Broadway hit Ruthless! The Musical will have its London premiere at a yet to be announced theatre next season. The news was announced in a press release regarding the show's star Kim Maresca returning to Feinstein's/54 Below, saying that she is set to repeat her performance as Judy Denmark in London.

"Ruthless! is a camp cult classic in which the beautiful and talented 8-year- old Tina Denmark will do anything to play the lead in her school play.... ANYTHING! A 90 minute roller coaster ride through the world of Broadway, child actors, stage mothers, parenthood, fame and unbridled ambition."

Described as an all female musical, Ruthless! the Musical features music by Marvin Laird and book and lyrics by Joel Paley. Primarily a spoof of Broadway musicals such as Gypsy and Mame, and films such as The Bad Seed and All About Eve, the musical premiered Off-Broadway at the Players Theatre in 1992 where it ran for 342 performances.

This new production opened Off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theatre on 13 July 2015, with direction by Joel Paley, musical direction by Ricky Romano, and music supervision by Marvin Laird. Kim Maresca starred as Judy Denmark alongside Tori Murray (Tina), Peter Land (Sylvia St. Croix), Tracy Jai Edwards (Louise), Andrea McCullough (Miss Thorn), and Rita McKenzie (Lita Encore).

Ruthless! The Musical won the 1993 New York Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical.

Venue and dates for the London production are yet to be announced.
