Ryan Scott Oliver's 35mm: A Musical Exhibition to run at The Other Palace

New musical at The Other Palace

A new production of Ryan Scott Oliver's musical 35MM: a Musical Exhibition has been announced to run at The Other Palace Studio from 18 September to 30 September 2017, with an official opening on 20 September. Featuring music and lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver it is based on photographs by Matthew Murphy. The production will be directed by Adam Lenson with casting to be announced.

"A picture is worth 1,000 words — what about a song? Can a picture inspire a song or fifteen? In "35MM," each photo creates an unique song, moments frozen in time; a glimmer of a life unfolding, a glimpse of something happening. A stunning new multimedia musical which explores a groundbreaking new concept in musical theatre... This intricately woven collection of stories told through song re-imagines what the modern American musical can be."

Inspired by Broadway photographer Matthew Murphy's images, it is described as a "thrilling new alternative rock musical" and features the songs "The Ballad of Sara Berry" and "Leave Luanne". It premiered at Galapagos Art Space in 2012.

Ryan Scott Oliver wrote the music and lyrics for Jasper in Deadland (off-Broadway; the 5th Avenue Theatre), Darling; Mrs. Sharp; Otherbody, a brief musical allegory, and more. He is at work on his "Dogs Trilogy" of original musical commissions: We Foxes, Rope and Three Points of Contact. 

Matthew Murphy is a New York City-based photographer specializing in theatre and dance.  Recent work can be seen in ad campaigns for Broadway's Hamilton, Kinky Boots, The Color Purple, Falsettos, On Your Feet! and Anastasia among others.
