Shakespeare’s Globe has revealed programming for its upcoming winter 2022 season. The season includes productions of Titus Andronicus, a return of The Fir Tree, and The Winter’s Tale across two stages.

The winter season begins with Henry V at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Set in the late 15th-century, Henry V follows a young ruler who tries to assert power. Henry V was recently at the Donmar Warehouse, starring Kit Harington. Holly Race Roughan directs Henry V, which runs from 10 November to 4 Feb. 2023.

Shakespeare’s Globe resident writer Hannah Khalil’s new work, titled Hakawatis: Women of the Arabian Nights, will run at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse over the Christmas period. The play will present ancient tales of women who stay united and fight for their future. Pooja Ghai directs Hakawatis, with performances from 1 December to 14 Jan. 2023. There’s also writing contributions from Hanan al-Shaykh, Suhayla El-Bushra and Sara Shaarawi.

Khalil’s The Fir Tree returns to the Globe Theatre, with performances from 15 to 31 December. The Hans Christian Andersen fairytale follows a fir tree who wonders what happens when it grows tall.

In 2023, Jude Christian will direct Titus Andronicus at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. The Shakespeare play follows the Roman general who returns from war feeling betrayed, and tries to seek justice. Titus Andronicus runs from 19 January to 15 Apr. 2023.

The season concludes with The Winter’s Tale in a production that utilises the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and Shakespeare’s Globe at the same time by staging the show across both spaces. Sean Holmes directs the Shakespeare play that follows a king who accuses his wife of infidelity. The Winter’s Tale runs from 9 February to 16 Apr. 2023.
