To paraphrase Shakespeare, Sigourney Weaver in The Tempest is such stuff as dreams are made on. The star of Alien, Working Girl, and The Ice Storm is set to join director Jamie Lloyd's new production of Shakespeare's drama starting 7 December 2024 at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Lloyd, with his Jamie Lloyd Company, kicks off a full season of Shakespeare at the West End venue with The Tempest. Weaver stars as the sorcerer and former Duke of Milan opposite Jude Akuwudike (Alonso), Jason Barnett (Stephano), Selina Cadell (Gonzalo), Mathew Horne (Trinculo), Mara Huf (Miranda), Forbes Masson (Caliban), Mason Alexander Park (Ariel), James Phoon (Ferdinand), Oliver Ryan (Sebastian), and Tim Steed (Antonio).
Lloyd will follow The Tempest with the beloved comedy Much Ado About Nothing, starring Tom Hiddleston as Benedick and Hayley Atwell as Beatrice, set to start on 19 February 2025.
The Tempest takes place on a remote island, where the wizard Prospero uses his magic to conjure a storm and wreak havoc on the survivors of an ensuing shipwreck, including a brother who betrayed him. Mistaken identities, romance, and more magic all follow.
