The West End production of Strictly Ballroom is set to close early in the West End after a seven-month run.

Baz Luhrmann's musical is based on his 1992 film of the same name, which formed part of his Red Curtain trilogy alongside Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge. It tells the story of a competitive ballroom dancer who goes against the sport's conventions, and enlists the help of a partner who will dance with him.

Strictly Ballroom's soundtrack includes a number of well-known hits like "Love Is In The Air", "Time After Time" and "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps".

The musical will play its final performance on 27th October 2018.

Following a run in Leeds at West Yorkshire Playhouse, the production opened at the Piccadilly Theatre, starring Jonny Labey, Zizi Strallen and Will Young. X Factor winner Matt Cardle recently took over Young's role as bandleader Wally Strand.

In a statement, producers said: "Strictly Ballroom will play its final performance on Saturday 27 October, at the end of what will have been a seven-month run. We are immensely proud of the production, led by our hugely talented cast and creative team, and have been thrilled by the standing ovations that audiences have responded with night after night.

"We would like to thank everyone involved for bringing this joyous new musical to the stage."

Strictly Ballroom will run at the Piccadilly Theatre until 27th October.

Strictly Ballroom tickets are available now.
