"Summer and Smoke" to close early 25 Nov 2006

Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke has posted early closing notices for 25 Nov 2006 at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Ave.(The show was originally booking to 3 Feb 2007)

The play opened at the Apollo on 18 Oct 2006, following previews from 10 Oct, to reasonable notices from the popular press: THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Adrian Noble's production misses Williams's bleak comedy and becomes too winsomely picturesque, but reveals the play's enduring vitality." THE GUARDIAN says, "There is much in the play to admire." THE TIMES says, "Absorbing and well performed by everyone." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Adrian Noble's production needs more dramatic heat and exoticism." THE INDEPENDENT says, "Luminous, sensitive and sharp production...Highly recommended."

It is directed by Adrian Noble, designed by Peter McKintosh , lighting by Peter Mumford, costumes by Desidre Clancy. Produced by Kim Poster on behalf of Stanhope Productions

Set in a small insular town in America's Deep South during 1916. The story of smoldering attraction and repressed passion. Alma Winemiller, has long adored John, the charismatic but dissolute son of her neighbour and the town's respected doctor. As the drama unfolds in this tale of longing and unrequited love, lives are changed in a way that none of those involved could ever have predicted.
